Pilates is a low impact exercise comprising controlled movements that enhance your balance, core strength, mobility, flexibility, and even mood. It focuses on the smaller and deeper muscles that support your structure and enhance your overall health.
Pilates is a popular low-impact exercise. It’s effective for toning up, building lean muscle, and improving posture. Practicing Pilates can be beneficial for your health and help you maintain a healthy weight. Yet, Pilates may not be as effective for weight loss as other cardio exercises, such as weight lifting, running or swimming.
Pilates is a particularly good exercise for many people with back pain as it is designed to strengthen the deep abdominal and pelvic floor muscles, which provide support to the back. Pilates has been found to reduce chronic back pain and the disability associated with back pain.
Pilates has been one of the recommended systems to take you back and help you recover after COVID-19. The reason behind this that usually people post-covid experience longer systems and despite testing negative, their recovery period extends to weeks. Exertion, fatigue, achy body, sleepiness, etc. are some of the after-effects of the infection that may continue for a couple of weeks after recovering. Pilates is a gentle form of exercise that is done in a controlled environment with a limited number of repetitions. Thus, it is a perfect system to promote post-covid recovery without putting much pressure on the body.
For minor injuries, approximately 4-5 sessions are enough while soft tissues usually take 6-8 weeks to heal after any surgery or injury. Any chronic conditions like joint pain back may need 2 or more months of treatment. On the other hand, neurological conditions like Paralysis or children with disabilities can take longer to improve mobility and muscle strength.
Depending on the severity of the clinical condition, the Physiotherapist or the Pilates Instructor will make a weekly workout program which may be everyday or 2-3 times a week.
